us that students at the school who spotted the done exactly what they were supposed to do. scary moments for students at owings mills high school tuesday around 10:00 a.m., after baltimore county officers were sent to the school for a call that a student at some sort of weapon. >> the students to savio the person with the gun did exactly what we would want them to do. they reported it very promptly to the school administrators. the school administrators did exactly what they were supposed to do. they locked down the school, contacted the police immediately by calling 911. >> a concern parent was about to enter the school to pick up her sick child when police arrived. >> i saw two or three dozen of them get out with rifles, and i lost it after that. i was no good after that. parents were showing up. >> the school was put on lockdown, something students

described as very frightening. >> we heard on the sticker that was a code red, so we had to get down. >> students had said they saw it didn't showing of the weapon and that turned out to be an airsoft bb gun that looks like a real handgun. the 17-year-old student was taken into custody. investigators say 22 minutes laps from the time they got the call until the student was taken away. this is the third unrelated incident in a baltimore county school and parents remain on edge. >> this is just too much. every other day, every other week, something is going on at the school. you are scaring the children everyday -- sending the children to school every day to get an

education and you have to be concerned about whether they are real weapons or not. >> police are not identifying the 17-year-old student as he will be charged with the juvenile. coming up at 6:00, a number of parents were concerned that they were not notified from the school about the situation. we talked to school officials, who have not answered begin to have an answer why. >> authorities in anne arundel county had a similar situation on their hands about an hour later. a 17-year-old student was arrested for bringing a knife and a pellet gun to school and showing them off to another student. the investigation is ongoing. members of the girls' soccer team are being treated at the hospital after a school bus was involved in an accident this afternoon.

it involves girls from the national academy foundation. the bus collided with a minivan with such force it was pushed up against an office building. city police are continuing their investigation. two people were shot while waiting in line at a downtown nightclub. the latest incident happened around 1:00 yesterday morning along the 400 block of west baltimore street and just across from the hippodrome theater. an armed men opened fire on two victims, causing other patrons to scatter. one of the victims as listed in critical condition and the others condition is unknown tonight. police say the shooter remains at large. >> authorities in college park or searching for gunman who robbed a university of maryland

students while he looked for a job near campus. happened around 9:30 last night on talbert road. he was running with other students when an armed man demanded the handover whatever they had. no one was injured in the attack. prince george's county police are now handling the investigation. testimony continued in the trial of two prince george's county police officers accused of beating a college park student. the attack was caught on a self on camera. barry simms is live with the latest. >> we learned that john mckenna was struck at least 12 times by those two officers. an expert testified it was excessive use of force. charged with assault and misconduct in office, prosecutors and the defense are focusing on the actions of prince george's county police officer james harris and an officer reginald baker. the officers were part of it

civil disturbance team who were mounted on patrol and dressed in riot gear. investigators testified tuesday. a key piece of evidence is the video shot on march 4, 2010, showing this celebration of the crowd in college park. it shows the beating of john mckenna, who was a 21-year-old college humojr.. he said as much can approach the horses, his behavior was not aggressive or noncompliant. the reported meeting with batons by baker and harris was excessive force. the defense pointed out that prince george's county police are trained in how to assess and handle the danger of mobs and

placed on lockdown this morning after a student brought a bb gun into the building. police say they were able to identify the 17-year-old shortly after viewing video from school security cameras. he will be charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and disruption of school activity. prosecutors say that two police officers abuse their power when they assaulted a university of maryland student two years ago during a rowdy post-game celebration. they are accused of beating it don mckenna as he celebrated the team's basketball win. jurors saw video of that night's brutal encounter. the defense argues that their clients work simply foot shoulders -- foot soldiers who were following orders. coach john harbaugh announced that ray lewis and lardarius

x emergency crews in new york spent the night trying to reopen the highway near vermont after a rock slide that blocked all vehicle access. how we crews had to bring in heavy equipment to remove all the debris. no one was injured in the incident. remember that huge eyeball that washed up in florida last week? it turns out it may have belonged to a sword fish. the agency says experts made the determination based on the size, color, and structure of the eyeball. they suggest an angler may have cut the eyeball out and tossed it our board. -- overboard. >> now, your insta-weather forecast with chief meteorologist tom tasselmyer. >> the average temperatures come in just a little below normal for this time of year.

front lines fighting a war. this one is on u.s. soil, but not what you might think. this battle takes place inside a room in cyberspace. intelligence officials are bringing together state and national fiber leaders at the convention center downtown. it focuses on cyber security threats, trends, and new products. officials are working to make sure the internet remains a place to do business and strengthen the economy. what they are doing here is not often, but defense, the ability to block incoming attacks. amazon.com says it will hire 50,000 temporary workers in the coming months. they will fill positions that order fulfillment centers across the country for the holiday season. they say they expect thousands of those temporary hires to stay

on full time. macy's says it plans to hire an additional 80,000 seasonal workers while wal-mart plans to hire 50,000. some good news tonight for more than 56 million social security recipients who are about to see their monthly payments increase by nearly 2%. the exact number is 1.7%. a key measure of inflation determines whether people receive social security get a cost adjustment. about 800,000 people will also receive the increase. that impacts about one in five u.s. residents. the salmonella scare that took thousands of jars of peanut butter of the score shelves and has been expanded to include shelled peanuts. they were sold mainly in dollar general and wal-mart stores.
